NETWORKDAYS_CTRY

Count business days between two dates by country.

Signature

NETWORKDAYS_CTRY(start, end, country, [subdivision], [weekend], [extra])

Square brackets mark optional arguments; do not type the brackets in your formula.

Arguments

NETWORKDAYS_CTRY arguments
ArgumentMeaning
startRequired. A Sheets date/datetime, YYYY-MM-DD text, or a column of start dates. Datetimes are truncated to the calendar day in the spreadsheet’s timezone.
endRequired. One end date (Sheets date/datetime or YYYY-MM-DD text). The inclusive end is shared by every start date in a range.
countryRequired. Case-insensitive ISO-3166-1 alpha-2 country code, such as "US". Use COUNTRIES() for the supported directory.
subdivisionOptional, Pro for calendar calculations. ISO-3166-2 suffix as listed by SUBDIVISIONS(country), such as "BY" for Bavaria. Omit or use "" for the national calendar. Use source-specific suffixes exactly as listed.
weekendOptional. Defaults to the country’s effective-dated weekend rule. Accepts NETWORKDAYS.INTL codes 1–7 or 11–17, or a quoted seven-character mask, Monday to Sunday (1 = non-working): "0000011" means Saturday–Sunday. Make-up working days still override the weekend rule.
extraOptional, Pro. A real range of additional non-working dates, for example H2:H10. Blank cells are ignored. Changing the range recalculates the formula. Extra dates win over holidays, working-weekend exceptions and weekend rules.

Return value

Counts business days from start to end inclusive, following the country calendar. When end < start, returns the negative count, following the NETWORKDAYS convention. With a column of start dates, uses the same end date for each row.

Returns 3: Thursday 2 July, Monday 6 July, and Tuesday 7 July. The observed holiday and weekend are excluded.

Returns -3 for the same inclusive interval in reverse.

Pro: returns 2 when H2=2026-07-06 and H3 is blank; the extra closure removes Monday.

Dates and range inputs

Use a single date or a column range for the date/start argument. A column returns one result per row; blank cells yield blank results. A range runs in one Apps Script execution for that formula cell. If a nonblank row hits a documented error, the entire formula spill fails.

Dates are date-only in the spreadsheet’s timezone. Text YYYY-MM-DD is accepted. Date outputs are real Dates: apply a date format in Sheets if a serial number appears. Examples use comma separators; some spreadsheet locales require semicolons.

Free and Pro

Free: every formula for the current calendar year and the next one, in the spreadsheet’s timezone; country-level only, no subdivisions and no custom extra ranges. In 2026, that window is 2026–2027.

Pro: $29/year or $4/month; holiday lists: 2000–2035, subject to source coverage; business-day formulas: years with published calendars. Includes subdivisions, custom extra ranges, and priority data corrections. Compare plans and owner-based access.

Errors

Errors are explicit. The examples below retain the exact specification text:

This error applies to an incomplete calendar in any year touched. The code and year are substituted for your request; HOLIDAYS can still list the available dates.

Calendar coverage and estimated dates

Estimated dates can move by a day when authorities confirm them. HOLIDAYS and HOLIDAYNAME preserve the source’s exact " (estimated)" suffix where supplied. An absent label does not prove that a date is confirmed.

For codes without working-weekend data, coverage is statutory weekend only: public holidays and the configured weekend rule, with no inferred make-up working days. Business-day formulas require a complete calendar for every year touched; Pro does not unlock unpublished calendars. Read the data coverage guide.
